Optimizer Classic allows you to customize the specific procedure (item) category, which apply to various KPIs and reports. When your practice management software data is first refreshed into Optimizer Classic, the Veterinary Dictionary™ reviews all of your item codes and assigns these items into the different procedure categories. To see how the categories are setup, click on the Settings gear icon in the upper right corner of the page and select Procedure Category. In the new window you can search by procedure category or scroll through the list of all our procedure categories. You can edit any of these categories, or even create your own.


 



 


The categories listed here are the default categories used in Optimizer Classic for specific KPIs and reports. You won't see common categories such as “Surgery” or “Pharmacy” in the list, as there are no KPIs or reports in Optimizer Classic that use these categories. 



The Success Dashboard and corresponding Success Report are good examples that use KPIs based on the Procedure Categories. The first KPI referenced in the Success Dashboard is based on Wellness Exams. The Procedure Category setup lets you customize the items that you want to be included as a “Wellness Exam”. One practice may have an item called “Wellness Exam”, while another practice may use something like “Annual Physical Exam” or even “Office Call”. 



From the Procedure Category setup window, you can customize each category by either adding new items to the category or removing items from the category. To add or remove items, click on the "Edit" button in the lower right of the Procedure Category setup window. The edit category menu will be displayed (below). 



 


To add a new item(s) to the category, select the item(s) on the left side by checking the box next to it, then click the right arrow in the middle of the menu to add it. To remove an item, select the item from the right side by checking the box next to it, then click the left arrow to move that item(s) into the category. Click Save, and close the menu.


The Success Dashboard also uses the procedure categories for Fecal Test, Heartworm Test and Dental Cleaning. The Potential Report and Patients Now also use items from the Procedure Category setup menu.
